How Can You Have a Full Mouth of Teeth Replaced?

Having a beautiful smile makes a person feel confident. A lack of teeth can cause individuals to be embarrassed about the appearance of their mouth and find it difficult to enjoy a wide array of foods. Thankfully, dentists can offer individuals all-on-4 dental implants so their smile can be made complete.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are titanium rods that are implanted into the jawbone, through the socket. If a person is missing their top or bottom teeth, they can have four implants strategically placed in their jaw so these four can support a full arch.

Implants are made of titanium because this metal is able to be accepted by the body and bond with the bone tissue. As the body grows new bone cells, these grow around the titanium implant so it becomes a permanent part of the jawbone.

What Can Patients Expect?

When a person sees the dentist for implants, they will first undergo an examination and testing to ensure they are a good candidate. The dentist will need to perform testing to ensure there is enough bone density in the jaw for the implant to be put in place. Bone grafts may be needed when bone growth is not sufficient.

The procedure for implant placement is carried out while a patient is sedated. Each implant is put in place for a total of four on top and four on the bottom. The temporary arches are also put in place while the patient is asleep so they awaken to a brand new smile.

The healing process takes time and a patient will not receive their permanent arches until full bonding has taken place. During this healing process, a patient will continue to wear their temporary teeth until their new arches are ready to be put in place.
